INTERFAITH YOUTH INITIATIVE SEEKS TEEN PARTICIPANTS AND SUMMER STAFF
Sunday, July 13 – Sunday, July 20, 2008
The Interfaith Youth Initiative is a program designed for teens of all faith traditions to explore peacemaking, interfaith dialogue, spirituality, community service, urban immersion, and issues of social justice. IFYI focuses on five Core Values: Building Bridges, Training Leaders, Engaging Faith, Making Peace, and Serving Others. This year’s theme is "Be the Change You Wish to See!"
Participants will learn about their own leadership and peacemaking styles and develop new skills for transformation in their schools, communities, and congregations. Youth will create film, art, poetry/spoken word, dance and theological reflections on their visions of justice and peace.
Both participants and staff come from diverse religious backgrounds and grow more deeply in their own faith traditions through dialogue and action with others. Leadership (currently!) comes from the Christian, Jewish, Muslim and Unitarian Universalist traditions. People of all faiths are welcome!!
SEEKING TEEN PARTICIPANTS FOR IFYI
We are seeking high school students (ages 15-18) who are curious and passionate about life and relationships, who have gifts and energy, who may be exploring their religious or spiritual journeys, and who are eager to have a blast while learning and building community in a supportive interfaith setting.
Does this describe you? Or do you work with youth or know someone who’d be a great addition to our interfaith community this summer?
Spaces are filling, so send in an application, or nominate youth as soon as possible by emailing or calling the IFYI office with contact information for teens and their parent, guardian, or youth leader. Fees for this summer are offered on a sliding scale of $0 - $750. Scholarships are available on a first come, first served basis. Our aim is inclusion for everyone, so no one will be turned away because of financial constraints.
Please contact IFYI@coopmet.org to request information today.
SEEKING SUMMER STAFF
Do you have gifts for leadership you wish to share with teens ages 15-18? Is your religion important to you? Do you care about interfaith dialogue, social justice and peace? Are you studying religion, theology, or would you describe yourself as a person of faith? If you answered yes to some of these questions, read on!
Cooperative Metropolitan Ministries’ Interfaith Youth Initiative (IFYI) is seeking college age Interns and graduate school student Mentors for our dynamic summer program.
Staff (both mentors and interns,) serve as teachers, role models, and allies to participants. Prior to the start of the program, staff will participate in two four-hour planning sessions, and monthly conference calls during the spring. During the summer program, (July 13th – 20th,) staff will live on the Episcopal Divinity School campus in Harvard Square, provide leadership in their areas of expertise, and participate in the community life of IFYI. Opportunities for continued involvement with the program are available from time to time throughout the following year in the form of mentorship to participants, attending conferences and participating in the weekend reunion in November, 2008.
Compensation for mentors is $800 for the eight day session, plus room and board. Interns receive $200 plus room and board. To apply, please send a cover letter describing your related experiences and interests, a recent resume and two references’ contact information to Alexander Levering Kern at:
